After being exhibited at the National Museum of the Romanian Peasant, artist Mischa Kuball's installation, If walls could tell, continues its journey through Bucharest, making a stop at the National Museum of Contemporary Art.
The project's first public presentation took place at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sarajevo, followed by several reiterations across various cultural and socio-political centers in South-Eastern Europe, such as Skopje, Kraljevica, Bihać, Čačak, Ljubljana, Chișinău, and Cetinje. The itinerary is set to conclude at Weltkunstzimmer, Düsseldorf, where representatives of the partner institutions will organize presentations, discussions, and debates based on the visual information collected throughout the journey.
Through this movable project, Mischa Kuball brings individual freedom of expression to the forefront, inviting us to collectively reflect on the meaning and status of cultural institutions related to the community within the fluid, expansive, and sometimes highly inflammable context of the contemporary era. This improvised exhibition space encourages visitors to leave their own written or drawn messages in a newly created non-institutional setting, where each mark serves primarily as a manifesto of free expression and agency. After a period of interaction with the MNAC public, Mischa Kuball’s artwork will be donated to the Museum and will become part of its permanent collection.
