The exhibition Life in the seas is located in two halls, and showcases marine and coastal wildlife in different climate zones of the world.
In the first hall five climate zones are represented: Arctic, Northern Temperate, Tropical, Southern Temperate, and Antarctic. Represented species are arranged according to inhabited areas from north to south. The showcased species include mammals, birds, reptiles, fish, corrals, mollusks and other invertebrates. The space also features male orca skeleton, obtained in the North Sea near Bergen in the early 20th century. For families with children, the exhibition offers a popular object — growth chart “Measuring with Penguins.”
In the second hall species found along Latvia's coastline are highlighted, focusing on birds, fish, mollusks and other invertebrates. Next to the grey seal juvenile there is an instruction manual on how to behave correctly in case of wild encounters. A few occasional visitors to Latvia’s coastline, known as vagrants, are also displayed. For the first time, a skeleton of the common bottlenose dolphin is exhibited. It was obtained from a 3.55-meter-long specimen washed ashore near Ķesterciems in 2023. The skeleton was made by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Latvian University of Life Sciences and Technologies.
