The exhibition Beyond form brings to the forefront the work of artists Marcus Aitken, Joanna Burtenshaw and Melina Georgouda who reinterpret the concept of abstraction through their unique perspectives. A common thread running through their practices is an experimental approach resulting in a multidimensional interpretation of abstraction.
The three artists, each from a distinct background, blend traditional and contemporary practices, pushing the boundaries of materiality and technique. In their work, abstraction is not merely an aesthetic choice but a process shaped by the artist’s relationship with their medium.
We are delighted to announce our new collaboration with British artist Marcus Aitken, who is being presented in Greece for the first time. Aitken is known for his groundbreaking approach to painting, combining bold, spontaneous gestures with experimental textures that amplify the energy of the canvas. His work explores materiality, randomness, and the interplay between color and space, creating an immersive abstract universe.
We are also thrilled to present Joanna Burtenshaw in our space for the first time. Joanna Burtenshaw constructs a world where abstraction meets the subtlety of tonal transitions and the transparency of layered forms. Organic shapes and fluid lines create a sense of motion, while earthy and pastel tones strike a balance between tranquility and the vibrancy of the composition. Burtenshaw delves into the relationship between space and perception, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in an abstract dialogue that oscillates between the tangible and the intangible. Her work, filled with sensitivity and experimentation, bridges the gap between aesthetic experience and emotional resonance.
Lastly, we are proud to present Greek artist Melina Georgouda in Athens for the first time, offering a fresh perspective on contemporary abstraction. Through her distinctive works, Georgouda establishes a visual dialogue that connects color with gestural expression. The linear details she incorporates on the surface imbue the compositions with a sense of transparency and movement, as if charting a continuous exploration of the relationship between geometry and fluidity. Her work is defined by the tension between the solidity of color and the delicacy of her interventions, crafting a dynamic interplay of light and texture that captivates the viewer.
