z2o Sara Zanin is pleased to present Due mondi - e io vengo dall'altro (Two worlds - and I come from the other), the second solo exhibition of artist Marta Roberti (Brescia, 1977), invited this time to interact with the spaces of via Alessandro Volta 34.
Large drawings, embroideries on cotton and drawings printed on copper-coloured and light blue charcoal paper, presented for the first time, unfold the dialogue between the animal world, aquatic landscapes and the human body.
Marta Roberti's main medium is drawing, interpreted not as simple tracing but as a material epiphany, generated on the border between presence and absence, between the gesture of the hand and the surface that holds its negative. Through the use of transfer paper, the artist creates images that are simultaneously formed on two surfaces, one part remains imprisoned on the sheet of tracing paper, while the other, through the use of graphite, pencil and oil pastel, is imprinted and transferred onto the support. The Taiwan handmade paper that she uses is fragile and vibrant, and becomes the receptive body of a process of transfer, welcoming the stroke like a sensitive skin, capable of absorbing the metamorphosis of the sign and retaining its echo The image, in continuous evolution, is self-determining in its expansion, escaping the limits imposed by the physical support and opening up to infinite formal combinations. The act of drawing becomes a thought that settles on matter.
In this occasion, we are pleased to announce Marta Roberti's participation in the exhibition Why Look at Animals?, curated by Katerina Gregos at EMΣT, National Museum of Contemporary Art in Athens in May 2025.
The publication Down dog produced by the artist with Les Cerises. z2o, accompanies the show.
