Ronchini is proud to present Metamorphosis, the first UK solo exhibition of artist Elizabeth Abel, showcasing a new series of paintings that reflect a period of profound evolution and transformation in the artist’s painting practice.

Her abstract compositions pull the viewer through an enticing, never-ending dance of colours, lines, forms, and shades which allow the observer to abandon themselves to the fluctuating and dynamic abstract landscape.

Metamorphosis features the latest artworks by the artist which represent a journey of reconciliation between opposing forces, fluid, expressive lines and concentrated, repetitive strokes. Elizabeth Abel’s process is a delicate balance between observation and intuition, as she works both from within and without. In the artist’s own words:

Metamorphosis is a word that can be absorbed into this cycle, this state of flux. Metamorphosis also refers to the time of making. It is a short-lived source of energy that springs from me.

In each work, the artist begins with quick, gestural mark-making directly from her paint tube, before allowing water to soften and expand the colour across the canvas. This interplay of structure and spontaneity gives rise to compositions that are both controlled and instinctive, inviting the viewer to witness the transformation that occurs with each brushstroke.

This exhibition offers an intimate glimpse into Elizabeth Abel’s creative process, where time itself is as fluid as the medium she employs—an ever-changing exploration of the self and the world around her.
