The Everson Museum of Art is pleased to announce the second and third installments of the Edge of Art Series in 2014. Artists Daniel Buckingham and Sarah McCoubrey are featured in solo exhibitions beginning May 10. Sarah McCoubrey: Works on Paper will be on view in the Coyne Gallery through August 24, Daniel Buckingham: Secret Invitation will be on view in the Memorial Gallery through August 10. Both exhibitions are free and open to the public with a suggested donation of $5 per person.

Buckingham’s work is informed by an 8-year bicycle trip the artist took around the world. Immersed in the history of the Silk Road, which facilitated the transmission of goods, ideas, culture, and religion, Buckingham’s social sculpture is intended to serve as a space to meet people from our community, share stories and even, as the artist suggests, fall in love.

McCoubrey uses her concern for the environment to take on the role of alchemist through her transmutation of the potato into mystical contraptions built to coast above the earth or journey along the desolate landscape. These delicately drawn mixed media works belong to a world of myths and fairytales and bring to mind artists such as Hieronymous Bosch and Salvador Dali.

An opening night reception is planned for Friday, May 9 from 5:30 – 8 p.m. The evening will include light hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar and live musical entertainment by Jerry Exline. Tickets are$5 for Everson members, $15 for non-members.

Buckingham and McCoubrey will participate in an artist talk at the Everson Museum, along with another exhibiting artist Mary Giehl, on May 29 at 6:30 p.m. Giehl, Buckingham and McCoubrey will discuss their new exhibitions, including their inspiration and techniques in an informal setting.
