The Paolo Erbetta Gallery is pleased to present the solo exhibition of Rieko Hotta (Tokyo, 1977) entitled Mash. In the exhibition will be displayed paintings of various sizes from 18x14 cm up to 200x300 cm.
The research of the artist aims to simultaneously synthesize the macrocosmic and microcosmic vision of perception, using an apparent random distribution of solids and voids. In the enjoyment of these works we are inevitably led to "scan" the surface of the canvas looking for a reassuring visual anchor, such as clouds, geographic perimeters and paths. Once we find a still point of view, this is immediately contradicted by another hypothetical and possible interpretation.
These are monochromatic works obtained by applying the oil paint with a repeated sign. Apparently harmless, they bring however, unexpectedly, the viewer in a maelstrom of new connections that generate a new perception of the meaning of things.
