Spinello presents Body and spirit, a multimedia group exhibition during Miami Art Week
Spinello Projects presents Body and spirit, a multimedia group exhibition featuring works by Esaí Alfredo, Eddie Arroyo, Thomas Bils, Damien Cifelli, Bernadette Despujols, Connor Dolan, Nereida Garcia-Ferraz, Elliot & Erick Jiménez, Kris Knight, Sinisa Kukec, Jared McGriff, Alejandra Moros, Reginald O'Neal, and Nina Surel. The exhibition examines the intersection of physical presence and intangible essence, offering nuanced perspectives on identity, memory, and personal mythology.
Through a dynamic exchange between corporeal and spiritual connections, the showcased pieces reveal how bodies and emotions carry memory, belief, and cultural resonance. Esaí Alfredo’s intimate sci-fi nightscape paintings of young men, Nereida Garcia-Ferraz’s multilayered dreamscapes of women and animals entwined in mutual support, and Kris Knight’s light-drenched emotional portraits all capture queer figures immersed in natural settings. Together, these works explore love, spirit, and heritage through personal myths and unspoken histories. Inspired by their Cuban roots, Elliot and Erick Jiménez’s photography bridges Lucumí spirituality with Western art, incorporating Yoruba and Catholic elements to explore the mysticism of deities within this mythology.
Sinisa Kukec debuts new sculptures from his ongoing Gravitywell series, featuring egg-shaped mirrors with concave impressions, inviting viewers to reflect on their place in a cosmic frame. Known for his landscape paintings, Eddie Arroyo pays tribute to Rosa de la Cruz, depicting her final resting place through a painting of her mausoleum within Little Havana's Woodlawn Park Cemetery North, celebrating her legacy in the art world.
Focusing on figurative, abstract, and surreal works across multiple mediums, the exhibition emphasizes the act of creation as a path to spiritual expression. Each artist intertwines personal experience with broader cultural narratives, forming a collective portrait of humanity’s quest for meaning and connection. From Jared McGriff’s abstract oil painting of a lone woman moving soulfully through space to Reginald O'Neal’s realistic portrayal of a row of miniature porcelain jazz musicians, Body and spirit collectively examines the visible and unseen dimensions of the body.
Rooted in spiritual, philosophical, and religious traditions, Body and spirit evokes the concept that the physical body and immaterial spirit are deeply connected, each shaping and reflecting the other. This exhibition invites viewers to consider how these dimensions intersect, profoundly influencing identity and experience.
