Kishka is pleased to present a spectacular group exhibition of three internationally recognized, visionary artists. Winter color includes works by Jessica Park, Edie Fake, and Jess Johnson. These three artists, working independently, have invented visual languages with profound connection. There is power in the way each artist uses a shared aesthetic to produce unique bodies of work, and fascination in the bridges created from their radically different starting points.
Jessica park, a lifelong resident of Williamstown, MA, has been producing her incomparable artistic output for over 40 years. Park’s intricate works, held in museum collections, are fastidious and specific with an open quality that keeps the work gracefully subtle. Park is also the subject of two memoirs- The siege and Exiting nirvana- by her mother Clara Claiborne Park about the experience raising a child with autism.
Edie Fake’s hyper-detailed paintings began as a parallel project to a successful career in comics. With radiating color, Fake’s work is celebrated for its formal qualities and thoughtful insights into issues of trans identity and “queer space” through the lens of architecture and ornamentation.
Jess Johnson brings to life a complex fictional world through hand-drawn images that are inspired by her interests in science fiction, comic books, technology, architecture, and theories of consciousness. Her drawing practice feeds into installations and collaborations in animation, music, fashion, virtual reality, and textile art. These additional mediums bring the world of her drawings into physical and virtual spaces, providing immersive experiences for audiences.
