C.A.V.E Gallery is pleased to present "Balancing Act" a two person exhibition featuring Amanda Marie and X-O - two artists who have been companions on an ambitious journey traveling and working together over the years- and are now for the first time, joining forces in a unique exhibition that will showcase works by each - and also contain "conversation pieces" that the two artists have made in tandem, where each artist makes a creative contribution to the same work.
C.A.V.E Gallery is once again honored to host our second exhibition with Amanda Marie.
Amanda Marie is among the most talented women working in the genre of "Stencilism", and has masterfully developed an endearing yet bold, visual language. The artist has perceptively co-opted a homogenized and stereotyped depiction of an ideal Modern American childhood. The work challenges the representation of wholesome American innocence and touches on the realities of mischievous curiosity and alienation, which lie underneath the surface of the picture perfect American childhood. Executed in a simplified illustrative style reminiscent of the 1950s, the characters seem to have been lifted from the pages of children's books - yet the storybook imagery is laced with playful antics, mystery and allegory.
The exhibition will include a large collection of works on paper, a special mural in the gallery, and a unique presentation of new canvas pieces.
Hyland Mather - or "'X-O's" - playful 'lost object' works are a fitting balance to Amanda Marie's nostalgic works.
X-O has developed a creative, signature style of repurposing 'Lost Objects' into wonderful assemblages. His impressive mural created in the courtyard at C.A.V.E. over a year ago continues to fascinate visitors to the gallery.
Along with showing some original collage works on paper, X-O will also be stamping his signature wood, metal, and plastic, 'collect and assemble' works in both the gallery and the courtyard of the gallery - creating an engaging and memorable experience for this special exhibition.
