Greene Naftali is pleased to present Loveless, a group exhibition that features new and historical works by Richard Artschwager, Katharina Fritsch, Jack Goldstein, Wade Guyton, David Hammons, Jacqueline Humphries, Sherrie Levine, Laura Owens, and R.H. Quaytman.
Loveless is an exhibition that attempts to address the contemporary conditions of trauma and crisis through painting and the mediated image. Placing an emphasis on photographic and reflective surfaces, this exhibition stakes a claim for the continued relevance of painting through its relationship to the anxiety-inducing proliferation of images and screens.
Privileging intimate, individual responses to this immediate, fast-paced reality, the exhibition indulges in a sense of futility. It is an idea conceived as a way out, but one invested with a kind of uncertainty that is at once automated and unnerved, cold and electric.
