Collection of M spans several centuries: from ancient masters to contemporary makers and everything in between. The new displays showcase the richness of M’s collection and challenge you to actively look. Masterpieces and little-known gems take you down unexpected parallels or highlight the burning issues of the day.

The presentation reveals the diversity of the collection in all its fascinating depth. Sculpture, painting, video, ceramics, glass ... the displays feature every conceivable media and discipline. You will see historical objects from the Middle Ages, contemporary artworks and an array of masterpieces from other periods. Some of the works are being exhibited for the first time.

Various themes and stories come to the fore, sometimes in a very obvious way, and at other times more subtly. What does this tell the visitor? Moreover: what do artworks communicate that isn’t perhaps visible?

How do light and matter interact? How can you capture the passage of time in images? How do artists reveal themselves in their works? What happens when you stand before an exhibit? What do you see, what is absent, and what do you – as an individual – bring to the work? And does an 800-year-old object still have something to say about contemporary society?

Some 300 works from the collection will make you see the world in new ways, and encourage you to reflect on what images, both historical and contemporary, are capable of evoking.
