The year 2024 marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Accompanying the history of New China are the revolutionary literary classics of various disciplines, and the creation of thematic art in New China is one of the important components, especially after the founding of New China in 1949, the Ministry of Culture, the National Museum of China, and the Military Museum of the Chinese People’s Revolution have all organized the thematic creation of major historical subjects, thus paintings reflecting the revolutionary history have continued to appear, and many artists have begun to use realistic methods to represent revolutionary history, revolutionary heroes, and the revolutionary deeds of the leaders of the Communist Party of China. At the same time, from the 1950s onward, in the era of "glorifying the motherland" and "serving the people", the first generation of artists in New China also created many thematic works reflecting the social changes in New China and the construction of the motherland.
The exhibition is divided into two parts, taking the themes depicted in the art works of New China as a clue: the first part, Great changes: building a New China, mainly selects works that reflect the new era and new themes in art creations with the theme of building a new China as a result of the great changes in social life after the founding of the People's Republic of China; the second part, Looking back: the age of revolution, mainly displays works that express the revolutionary era and the theme of war, which is a look back of the past revolutionary history.
75 years have passed by, through the hard work of generations of Chinese people, China's national outlook and people's lives have changed dramatically. This exhibition takes this opportunity to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China through the historic contributions made by the artists of the previous generation to the development of fine arts in new China.
