Ricart Gallery’s latest exhibition called Faces, is a collection of new paintings by French born and Miami local artist Carolus opening Saturday, April 12th from 6-10pm.

The exhibition Faces features new works by Carolus, known for her paintings whose subject primarily involves human faces. Inspired by Carolus’s international travels, she starts with a background color and then allows a face to come alive onto the canvas. As her faces evolve so does the medium with an added element of texture to the paintings for this exhibition. The mixed media artworks are created using cardboard instead of painting brushes. Carolus is the only known artist to paint with this innovative technique that she discovered while living abroad finding that brushes and other materials were costly and hard to come by.

“I cannot change my subject but I can change my technique. The faces and I communicate and the exchange further inspires their evolution,” explains Carolus.

In addition there will be featured works including photographs by Italian photographer Tiziano Magni and paintings by Indonesian artist I Wayan Sudarsana Yansen.

Born in France, Carolus has been painting since she was a child. She studied at Beaux Arts, Paris, France and Parsons School of Design in NYC before painting full time. She likes to play with colors and knows how to mix the right ones together to give create harmony within her paintings. Her works recall memories from her travels and a lasting impression in the observers minds as they transpire the various cultures of the world. Carolus lives in Miami with her husband and two children.

For more than twenty years photographer Tiziano Magni has been shooting some of the most well known supermodels for spreads in the top glossies and high profile ad campaigns for prestigious fashion, beauty, and automotive clients. Magni is the lensman responsible for the famous Kate Moss and Mark Wahlberg for Calvin Klein from the 90s. Born in Italy in 1953, Magni started taking pictures at the age of twelve. At fourteen he bought his first photography tome, Sam Haskins' iconic Cowboy Kate, and at twenty-one began shooting for Italian Vogue.

I Wayan Sudarsana Yansen is a contemporary Indonesian artist who’s abstract paintings celebrate colour, life, energy and spirit in an organic way. Bursting, flowing, decomposing and re-emerging the forms appear in a constant state of transition. The visual language he creates on the canvas is both beautiful and mysterious with each piece he weaving a small story about the natural course of things. Yansen lives and works in Ungasan, Bali, Indonesia.
