Voltz Clarke Gallery is pleased to present Filial love, a solo show, by Sasha Sykes Distinguished Irish artist Sasha Sykes’ latest solo exhibition, Filial love is a meditation on one of Sykes' most profound influences: her 82-year-old mother's celebrated garden in Ireland. This deeply personal body of work is a tribute to the spiritual and emotional connections nurtured in this verdant sanctuary.
Using nature as her palette, Sykes meticulously embeds organic materials in resin, transforming them into ethereal reexaminations of the environment. Her work, celebrated for its transcendent beauty and innovative technique, is featured in many museum and influential private collections. Critics have lauded her creations as "a harmonious blend of the organic and the sublime” and as Lucia van der Post wrote in the Financial times, How to spend it, “her creations seem suffused with a melancholic Irish lyricism”.
Sasha reflects, “My mother’s garden has always been a place where our souls can meet, free from complications, filled with simple delight and wonder. This new series references those memories and interrogates whether the powerful flash of spiritual connection that gardens have provided between my mother and me can be replicated, in a time of climate anxiety, to all humans and mother nature”. Gardens have always been about more than aesthetic beauty; they are the complex interconnection of location and design, climate and ecology, soil and plants, and a huge amount of knowledge, work, energy and love.
This awaited series unveils a profound exploration of nature through the lens of intimate familial bonds rendered in Sykes’ unique and signature approach to fine art.
