Geary is pleased to present a solo presentation of collaged woodblock prints by Brooklyn artist, Takuji Hamanaka. Utilizing an adapted version of the 19th Century Japanese Bokashi technique of woodblock printing, Hamanaka creates colorful grid gradients, abstracting ideas of craft, the natural world and design. The exhibition opens Saturday, August 3, 2024 from 3-5p and is on view through September 29, 2024.
Takuji Hamanaka was born in Hokkaido, Japan, in 1968 and lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. His works are included in the collections of the Johnson Museum of Art, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, the Fleming Museum, The University of Vermont, Burlington, VT, the New York Presbyterian Hospital, Fidelity Investments Corporate Art Collection, the Soho House Art Collection, and Sumitomo Corporation, New York, NY, among others.
