Mariane Ibrahim is proud to present Los sueños de la luz / Les rêves de la lumière (The dreams of light), an exhibition curated by Marisol Rodríguez showcasing the works of Djabril Boukhenaïssi (b. 1993), Marcella Barceló (b. 1992), Camille Fischer (b. 1984), Alexandre Lenoir (b. 1992), Johanna Mirabel (b. 1991) and Marie de Villepin (b. 1986), six French artists exploring the medium of painting.
Los sueños de la luz / Les rêves de la lumière (The dreams of light) is a choral portrait of contemporary creation in France, showcasing approaches to painting from diverse realms of memory, music, dreams, personal and social stories. While their techniques may vary from the academical to the experimental, what unites these practices is their exploration of the representation of the human form, one that fluctuates from its presence to its evanescence.
If light is has been a central, genre-defining concern of painters throughout the histor(ies) of art, Los sueños de la luz / Les rêves de la lumière (The dreams of light) imagines light looking back at the artists’ work, purposely hiding of exposing silhouettes, faces and landscapes in images that speak to our time’s preoccupations: tensions between the digital against the analog, identity and memory, dreams and reality.
