Space Gallery is thrilled to announce the release of the St Barth watercolor collection by local artist Julie Fumat. The collaboration features a series of 11 limited edition aquarelle prints of the island’s most iconic features and landmarks. Along with the illustrated map of the island the collection includes depictions of Corossol, Gustavia, The Light House, The Church and Anchor, Shell Beach, The landing at Pelican Beach, Parasols on the beach, the colorful Minimoke, the Bucket Regatta and the iconic sSurf Hut of Lorient.

After completing a more traditional education at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Julie Fumat spent several years in the art world as a gallery owner. Her artistic journey then took her down a multidisciplinary path at the crossroads of photography, photomontage, and acrylic painting and it wasn’t until years later that she discovered and learned the art of watercolour. Since then, she has set about representing the neighborhoods of her adopted island, little by little, stone by stone, in order to create a colorful inventory of the beauty of Saint Barthélemy.

Under her artistic identity ‘Moon St Barth’, Julie creates delightful, delicate watercolors, that capture the nuance of the places we hold special on the island and their color and spirit. She works primarily with ink and watercolor because they rely heavily on transparency and allow her to play with chance. “I have a particular affinity for the wet-on-wet technique, which enables me to create beautiful fusions between water and pigment that give watercolor its unique charm. However, I’m always eager to experiment with new techniques. I regularly reinterpret my illustrations using digital overprinting from photographs or decomposing watercolors layer by layer to give each drawing a new dimension and depth”.
