The Gerald Peters Gallery, Santa Fe is pleased to present A delicate balance, a thought-provoking and timely exhibition of new work by Penelope Gottlieb exploring the relationship between humans and the natural world.
Through the lens of John James Audubon’s iconic bird paintings, Gottlieb highlights the impact of invasive plant species on native ecosystems and the delicate balance that must be maintained to sustain life on earth. Gottlieb’s appropriation of Audubon’s work highlights the enduring relevance of his artwork and the ways in which our relationship with the natural world has changed over time.
Through her powerful use of color and form, Gottlieb creates a visual commentary on the beauty and resilience of both birds and plants. This exhibition is a poignant reminder of the interconnectedness of all living things and the importance of preserving the natural world for future generations.
In conjunction with the exhibition, best-selling author and historian, Dan Flores, will speak at the gallery on Saturday, July 27 at 11am. The author of 11 books and the recipient of numerous awards, Flores will discuss “Audubon and a vanishing America”. This event is free and open to the public.
