Unfortunate in illness, Vincent Van Gogh worked on one of his best-known paintings, Starry Night. It was painted by the creative genius just before sunrise while in a psychiatric asylum in Southern France. Expression of the turbulent flow of how the light moves, makes it one of the best-known artwork of impressionists, too.

I tell you solemnly, that I have many times tried to become an insect. But I was not equal even to that. I swear, gentlemen, that to be too conscious is an illness — a real thorough-going illness.

(Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Notes from Underground)

Imprisoned, the time spent in isolation and suffering made a significant mark on Fyodor Dostoyevsky's writings, as well. Besides becoming a founder of psychological novels, his biographers note that self-analysis also turned a flamboyant young man into a more humble and deeply religious.

Walter Russell considered his story of illumination as a duty to bring up to the scientific community. He examined the mind-centered nature of science and consciousness, the electromagnetic universe. Following it up in conversations with the industry pioneers of his time, Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison.

Can we mathematically model consciousness?

Out of the cradle
onto dry land
here it is
standing:
atoms with consciousness;
matter with curiosity.

(Richard Feynman)

We have approached these questions within a quantum information theory of stochastic resonances. Examining a computational model of motion through a multi-dimensional scale-space.

Julesz’s random dots stereograms illustrate a holographic representation of information bonds by fusing the visual textures in a single perception. We have published a paper on generalized random stereograms, in 1 and a 5-dimensional decomposition of bonding information quanta via coordinate transformations has been proposed.2

Learning and control of limb movements have been studied as a sequence of synergistic joint motions.2 The equilibrium points hypothesis has been generalized in memory, attention, and behavioral data study.4

Where dimensions come from? Elusive, yet within a working model of our mind

A behavioral dimensionality paradigm along two dimensions, intensity and distance of an auditory signal has been examined3. We have shown a neuronal representation of sound distance in the human auditory cortex as a result of the information flow propagation in the brain. Distinct patterns of the scaling property of the information flow can be observed, from the tonotopic map to the point of the intensity independent feature detector.

Biological systems control movements at different levels of complexity via coordinate transformations, from a planned movement to reflexes. Mirroring a holographic representation of the world that we experience and act upon. In our view, the role of an observer moves from a quantum to our everyday's experience.

Towards understanding the mind

If we do not fashion for ourselves a picture of the world, we do not see ourselves either, who are the faithful reflections of that world. Only when mirrored in our picture of the world can we see ourselves in the round.
