The annual Rockfield Country Music Festival will be held on June 1st through June 4th, 2012, on the Queen’s Jubilee bank holiday weekend; the event will take place in Monmouth, Gwent, United Kingdom.
The festival is an extravaganza of Wild West and country music entertainment and it will have 24 bands and artists performing in a huge marquee down in fields by the River Monnow, three miles outside of Monmouth.
Live music will be provided by many British Country Music Award Winners including Texas Tornadoes, Spur, Chris James and Kay D, and Nashville Star Search winner, Rachel Cain. Among other artists, the evening will also include DJ Pepper who will play favorite country music tracks between bands. The attendees are encouraged to wear Western clothing, as they will have the opportunity to be selected for the participant best dressed and win a prize. The event will include charity raffles.
Each year, the festival also holds a Battle of The Country Bands competition over 12 country artists and bands compete for audience votes to win £2000 of recording time from sponsors Monnow Valley Studio. Last year the Dutch band travelled for 16 hours just to be part of the competition; the band won the contest and it walked away with the prize. This upcoming June they will return and they will play their music live.
Other entertainment will include The Lawmen Wild West show which re-enacts gunfights and bar brawls from the Wild West, as well as line dancing lessons, a bucking bronco machine, horseshoe throwing, and a fast draw contest.
As many as 20 trade stands will be at the event to sell authentic American cowboy hats, boots, belts, crinoline dresses, and other western wear, which is usually worn by a majority of the attendees at the event, creating an amazing 'American frontier' like atmosphere.
