For the anniversary celebration, the 25th edition of the do-it-yourself event, the KreativWelt trade fair gathered once more 40,000 enthusiastic amateur hobbyists, handicraft fans and confectioners in Frankfurt. Featuring 300 exhibitors, a variety of 170 hands-on offers and the expert’s presentations at the four-day trade fair with workshops by people of different industries, like the well-known interior designer Eva Brenner. Program stages were overwhelmed, especially on the busy weekend. Eva Brenner’s fans were queuing up after QVC craft expert Andrea Müller, knit designer Tanja Steinbach and the cake bakers Patrick Dörner and Tobias Müller who joined the popular TV presenter Eva Brenner on stage on Sunday. Eva Brenner, just as she does in her German TV-show "Mach was draus" (Make a thing of it) transformed through upcycling workshops together with visitors to the fair old vases and mason jars into unique designer pieces. Workshop participant Jennifer Sorg was one of the lucky ones allowed to take home one of the items: "It was great fun! Eva Brenner is so nice. Her suggestions are inspiring." Like many other self-makers, she also joined the group afterwards in a long queue to get photographed with the upcycling professional and to catch an autograph card.
Happy mood everywhere
All over the creative world the mood was jubilee-worthy: there was a lot of hustle and bustle, you met bright faces and bulging shopping bags. On two Hall levels you could find a variety of inspirations for your own hobby, buy materials of all kinds and also try new creative disciplines. Among the 170 workshops you could try oriental knotted wall decoration (macramé), penmanship practice (handlettering), and painting with wool (Punchneedling), decorate biscuits with fondant and make Christmas decorations.
Child-friendly offers
Nursery and primary school teachers among the visitors asked for more Child-friendly offers. Specially the classics for kids between the ages of 4 and 10. An educator stated: “I missed the classics, including color papers, scissors and stamps.” It seems there is a trend for the basics and less sophisticated materials and tools for kids. While the young come to get inspired and re-discover crafts and techniques, the elderly rather look for new materials and tools. Finished products and food were also available, including vegan skin care products, crafted sweets and even alcoholic drinks.
