In Grada Kilomba's film trilogy Illusions we encounter the well-known fables of Narcissus, Oedipus, Eurydice and Antigone, reworked and performed by mime artists. Through ancient mythology and colonial history, Illusions speaks of human rights directly into our contemporary times.

The precision of the artistic expression and an urgent message rooted in her own experiences makes Grada Kilomba one of today's most interesting artists. Bildmuseet is proud to present her first solo exhibition in Scandinavia. The third part of Illusions has been produced by and for Bildmuseet in collaboration with the Maxim Gorki Theatre in Berlin.

Grada Kilomba's (b. 1968, Portugal) works have been shown at art institutions around the world, like the São Paulo Biennale (2016) and the Berlin Biennale (2018) where she was one of the most acclaimed artists. Kilomba's book Plantation Memories: Episodes of Everyday Racism (2008) has been printed in five editions.
