The exhibition entitled Unjustified violence will present the works by ten artists employing diverse artistic techniques and resorting to various aesthetic codes and stylistic solutions. The exhibition is yet another attempt to exploit an important thematic area offered by the works constituting Zachęta’s collection. The authors of exhibited works comment on various phenomena and aspects of contemporary culture, and – resorting to an array of means of expression, styles and aesthetic formulae – diagnose our age, thus making their contribution to the ongoing dispute. The works reveal artistic strategies and attitudes characteristic of their authors – ranging from those employing a metaphor or a fairy-tale disguise to the ones which with brutal directness expose the problems besetting us today. The common theme is the story of the oppressive nature of culture, repressive impact of cultural codes, stereotypes and fads present in various areas of contemporary life.
The exhibition will present the works by the following artists: Mira Boczniowicz and Andrzej K. Urbański (the group “i inni”), Paweł Jarodzki, Jerzy Kosałka, Zbigniew Libera, Grzegorz Przyborek, Wojciech Pukocz, Jadwiga Sawicka, Krzysztof Wałaszek and Jacek Zachodny. Despite the autonomy of all these artistic productions, the works exhibited in one space will engage in a dialogue on many themes. They will watch each other, amplify their message, reveal hidden layers and senses, which may only be fully exposed during such a complex dialogue.
