Jeff Bailey Gallery is pleased to present Fabienne Lasserre, Here Like a Story Like a Picture and a Mirror, an exhibition of new sculpture.

Here are pieces to be looked at while moving. Like a wall seen streetside, a corner turned, the pavement scanned while absorbed in the environment rather than occupying it. Looking out at the world, one jumps from theme to theme, shred of narrative, feeling, association, identification and projection. This is not scrutiny or manipulation from a distance but “being in”. Like mirrors, the sculptures exist through others and context. They partake in a representation that is not reproduction or illusionism. Things are at arm’s length and touchable. One must look around, behind, up and over. The sculptures are facts that the senses explain. - Fabienne Lasserre

This is Lasserre’s second solo exhibition with the gallery. Her work is exhibited in Outside The Lines, at the Contemporary Art Museum, Houston, opening October 31. She currently has work on view in Saber Desconocer, 43 Salon (inter) Nacional de Artistas, at the Museum of Modern Art, Medellin, Colombia. Her work was included in The Quebec Triennial, Contemporary Art Museum, Montreal; and in exhibitions at Parisian Laundry, Montreal; David Petersen Gallery, Minneapolis; Regina Rex, Brooklyn; Sikkema Jenkins & Co., New York and Gallery Diet, Miami. Included in the exhibition are works recently completed during a Workplace Residency at Dieu Donné, New York. Lasserre received a 2013 Project Grant for Visual Artists from the Canada Council for the Arts. She received her MFA from Columbia University in 2004, and lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
