Lit comprises five recent acquisitions to the museum’s collection by Abraham Cruzvillegas, Rafael Domenech, Mark Handforth, Urs Fischer, and assume vivid astro focus. Utilizing diverse scale and media, ranging from Plexiglas, cast bronze, plastic and wood, to found objects and digitally printed carpet, the selection of works all incorporate illumination into their form.
These hybrid objects borrow and combine familiar elements from everyday life and the urban landscape—reticular shopping carts, street lamps, palm trees, chandeliers, wood and ephemera from London parks—to explore themes such as equal rights, advocacy around public greenspace, cultural migration and displacement. Together, these works provide light to the gallery, while evoking an atmosphere of humor, hope, melancholy, irony and the absurd.
