On Friday, October 4th, the John Pence Gallery, located on 750 Post Street in San Francisco near Union Square, will open an exhibition of recent oil paintings by Zack Zdrale. The gallery will host a reception for the artist on October 4th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The exhibition will remain on view to the public until November 2nd.
Hailing from Wisconsin, Zack Zdrale has continued to grow as painter since his first show here at the John Pence Gallery in 2008. Now joining us for his 3rd solo exhibition in San Francisco, Zack is offering up his strongest figurative work thus far. A master of expressing moods both introspective and enigmatic, Zack has now entwined many symbolic references into his work, adding an extra layer of depth and thoughtfulness. “Tumult” symbolizes the concept of man versus nature and at the same time the indomitable spirit of mankind. The composition is stunning and the mood is electric, allowing the viewer to feel the tension in the piece. The color choices add to the frenzied excitement.
There are a wide variety of portraits, each having distinct qualities that make them all unique. “Flight” is an especially soul bearing piece, showing the yearning to fly through the symbolism of feathers in an almost whimsical, uplifting way.
