Elizabeth Peyton (b. 1965, Danbury, Connecticut) lives and works in New York, where she obtained a BFA from the School of Visual Arts (1987). Working primarily in painting, drawing and printmaking, Peyton is best known for her portraits of figures from her own life and those beyond it – from close friends, to historical personae, to icons of contemporary culture.
Peyton’s portraits have regularly featured artists, writers, musicians and actors, among others, transformed through her unique colour palette and graphic sensitivity, imbuing their likenesses with passion, magic, and a sense of beauty that transcends the everyday.
