The work of Stefan Gritsch (b. 1951) is, in the broadest sense, grounded in painting: he takes its conditions and expands them in many different directions. After various institutional presentations in Switzerland and abroad, the Aargauer Kunsthaus is devoting a comprehensive solo exhibition to the Lenzburg-based artist in his home canton of Aargau.
The focus of the exhibition is on the experimental and processual character of Stefan Gritsch’s practice. Familiar and new, sometimes surprising strands of work meet and interlock to form an exciting overall installation which the artist will occasionally influence even during the exhibition. The breadth and complexity of Stefan Gritsch’s oeuvre comes fully into effect for the first time – an oeuvre that physically immerses us in the colour material while at the same time engaging us intellectually.
