Bruno David is pleased to present Metropolis, Mark Travers’s first solo exhibition with the gallery. In conjunction with the exhibition, Bruno David Gallery Publications will publish a catalog of the artist’s work with an exhibition history and bibliography.
Mark Travers’s Metropolis embodies precision, elegance and geometric rigor. Travers creates abstract references to architecture, street grids and other aspects of urban life. As a painter, he is interested in light and its translucence through the layering of opaque paints and varnishes. His technique creates an ethereal, visual ‘shift,’ reminiscent of light shining through stained glass, almost as if a doorway or window has opened to a new, other-worldly dimension.
Travers earned a BFA from Washington University in St. Louis and an MFA from Pratt Institute in New York, laying the groundwork for a long and substantial career in advertising, public relations and public affairs. His considerable skills transferred across numerous and wide-ranging industries, culminating in the establishment and management of his own advertising agency in St. Louis. He lives and works in St. Louis.
