The title of the exhibition Big Picture is programmatic: It features unusually large works, with the largeness not always relating merely to the format in terms of surface or volume. The phrase Big Picture is also used synonymously with “overall view,” “wider context” or “totality of a situation.”
In line with this, the exhibition presents large-scale paintings, photographs, sculptures and installations as well as smaller works that contain a whole world or an all-encompassing concept. In addition, it addresses questions regarding the function of the largeness of artworks, how it can be essential for the artistic expressiveness and for the impact on the viewer.
The exhibition comprises works of the collection of the Aargauer Kunsthaus, sporadically complemented by selected loans. Featuring works by Marcia Hafif, Markus Raetz, Hugo Suter, Fiona Tan, Ben Vautier and others.
