Flowers is pleased to announce the New York debut of the artist Rachel Heller. Equally adept with charcoal, chalk, pencil, pastel, oil, or crayon, Heller’s works reveal an innate mastery of her craft expressed with bold and spontaneous strokes. The exhibition will run from September 12th through October 12th, 2013, with an opening reception on Thursday, September 12th from 6-8pm.

Although Heller was born with Down’s Syndrome, she demonstrated an aptitude for art from a very early age. Her work has been compared to that of Braque and Picasso for engaging with simultaneous perspective and rejecting standard conventions of mimetic representation, however her style is uniquely her own. At once intuitive and analytical, Heller communicates through her art a deep understanding of humanity—her works are full of life, sensual and uninhibited.

Heller has studied at the Prince’s Drawing School as well as the Slade School of Fine Art. She received her diploma from the Byam Shaw School of Art and in 2006 she was awarded the Hugh Casson Drawing Prize. Heller’s work has been included in several exhibitions at the Royal Academy of Arts and at galleries across London. Her work is collected by many of her fellow artists including Anthony Caro, Maggie Hambling and Peter Blake.
