SMK are turning the wrong side out and showing you the backside of artworks in a brand new exhibition in connection with this year’s Golden Days Festival with the theme The B-sides of History.

The museum has taken the theme of this year’s Golden Days Festival theme very literally. We have turned selected works around to showcase the stories and secrets that have been hidden away against the museum walls.

Like an artwork that has been painted over or the beginning of a new painting, abandoned before it was fully formed, on the backside of a canvas. Or backsides with coats of arms that tell tales of previous owners, remnants from earlier restorations – or surprising bonus art!
