Bringing together elements from Terroir: A Retrospective and Terroir: A Nova Scotia Survey, this exhibition looks at historical and contemporary regional artistic production through the culture from which it emerges.
Borrowing from the language of wine, the word “terroir” refers to the complete natural environment in which a particular wine is produced, including factors such as the soil, topography, and climate.
Then and Now draws from the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia’s permanent collection - including new works acquired through A Nova Scotia Survey – and provides a broad examination of art and artists Nova Scotia’s terroir has and continues to produce.
