The first floor of the Princely Palace houses objects from the oldest periods of the Celje region: fossil remains of ancient animals and plant species, the bone needle from Potok Cave (Potočka zijalka), and metal, ceramic and stone material from different periods of history – from Stone, Copper, Bronze, and Iron Age until the Roman conquest.
Each of the exhibited items is part of a mosaic of historical memory; fragments, connected into a whole, reveal the past of different ancient denizens inhabiting the vast area between Olševa and Sotla, and between Sava and Pohorje.
Savinja with its tributaries was truly a cradle of civilization, for it offered excellent conditions for living and prosperity.
