Fall is around the corner and with it, we will get a bunch of new shows to watch and some of my favorite ones coming back too. So I decided to make a list of shows that I'm most excited about.
The Purge - Season: 1
Premiere Date: September 4
The Purge is an upcoming horror television series based on the movie franchise of the same name.
I enjoyed some of the movies for what they are. It is a good concept that was terribly executed. But part of me loves the over-the-top approach of t those flicks. So maybe, a TV show may be a good way to give it some more depth. I mean, they could show the days leading up the purge, the purge itself, and the days following it, seeing how it affects people.
I will definitely watch it. But will I rave about it like I do with some other shows in this list? Probably not.
It's always sunny in Philadelphia - Season: 13
Premiere Date: September 5
I absolutely love this show and everybody involved in it. And I was worried when Glenn Howerton’s Dennis Reynolds said goodbye to the gang at the end of last season. And I’ve got even more worried when the official synopsis of season 13 said he would not take part in most of the episodes.
But I think that is all the same old story that we saw in Game Of Thrones and some other shows as well - Producers say that the main character is not coming back in any possible way, he is done, time to move on. But in the end, the said character comes back anyway.
I’m banking on him returning maybe around the second or third episode. And knowing the show well, I'm looking forward to how they will make this happen. Also, I can't wait for the Super Bowl episode, it will probably be bonkers.
The Deuce - Season: 2
Premiere Date: September 9
I was a huge fan of the first season of The Deuce. Maggie Gyllenhaal and James Franco were both fantastic in it! And I can’t wait for season 2.
According to the trailer HBO released, it will be a big time jump. 5 years to be more exact. This information made a little bit worried at first. But then, I remembered that this is a David Simon show. And I have a lot of faith in him, he has never let me down before.
So yeah, bring on the wild and gritty 1977 Midtown Manhattan. This is going to be awesome!
Kidding - Season: 1
Premiere Date: September 9
I'm very excited for this one. It looks terrific in my opinion. Jim Carrey stars as Jeff, aka Mr. Pickles, an icon of children's television, a beacon of kindness and wisdom.
Michel Gondry is behind Kidding which is a good thing. He's got a really different and fun aesthetic, I love it! And he also has done some good work with Carrey before in Eternal Sunshine Of A Spotless Mind. So, needless to say that I'm very interested in watching this.
Bojack Horseman - Season: 5
Premiere Date: September 14
I absolutely cannot wait for Season 5. Even though, I haven't even recovered from the last season yet. Season 4 was definitely a tonal shift for Bojack. He has been getting better, but everyone else in the show is still so troubled. I'm not saying Bojack’s fixed or ever will be fixed. But he's grown after showing little to no growth for a long time. And that is some progress.
I also love how the show keeps getting better every year. In each season I'm convinced there's no way the next one will top it. But they always find a way to prove me wrong. I hope they will do it again.
The Hunt for the Trump Tapes with Tom Arnold - Season: 1
Premiere Date: September 18
Tom Arnold is obviously a problematic character. He has publicly discussed his ADHD diagnosis and side effects that prevent him from taking the medication he needs. And that, unfortunately, makes him an unreliable source.
But this show can beat all the odds and end up being pretty entertaining. I’m planning on giving it a chance. Although, I’m aware that all of the hype the show is getting in the media will probably have no payoff.
The Good Place - Season: 3
Premiere Date: September 27
This show has been a pleasant surprise for me so far. It's well written, well acted and extremely clever.
I thought that Season 1 was basically perfect. Season 2 was still very funny but it felt like, less happened on a per-episode basis. I understand the lack of twists on the second season though. Because once you do that, you can't keep doing it. But some episodes felt like straight up fillers.
I will definitely check this out. But I’m hoping the third season doesn't end with yet, another reset.
The Romanoffs - Season: 1
Premiere Date: October 12
Mad Men is one of my favorite shows ever. And I got super excited when I heard the Matthew Weinerr (Mad Men’s creator) has a new show coming out this fall.
The Romanoffs is supposed to be an "anthology series" with a different cast, a different story and a different location in every single episode. And it is about several different characters who believe they are descendants of the Romanov dynasty.
I think it'll be interesting to see what Weinerr does with this different method of storytelling.
