The Kaneko Gallery exhibits eighty major pieces from among the 1,035 cultural properties donated by Mr. Kazushige Kaneko, the director of the Institute of Asian Ethno-Forms and Culture in Japan.
Through his donations Mr. Kaneko hopes to repay Korea for the favors that Japan has received in the past and promote amity between the two countries. Mr. Kaneko visited over thirty countries in Asia over the past four decades and collected a wide range of resources.
His donations include splendid Buddhist cultural heritage, such as Buddhist sculptures, paintings, and scriptures from Southeast Asia, and diverse collections that reveal culture and lifestyles across Asia, including lacquerware, earthenware, porcelain, wooden crafts, textiles, and more.
