Curator Sharon Newton is pleased to present a range of spectacular photographs spanning 35 years of Jeremy Hunter’s career.
Jeremy Hunter leads us on an inspired journey across the world recording extraordinary festivals, rituals and celebrations in more than 65 countries across 5 continents. He chronicles the most extraordinary, the most beautiful, often the most vulnerable aspects of humanity.
Against a backdrop of some of the world’s most stunning landscapes, the human aspect of these ceremonies is spectacularly captured and highlights the world’s wide diversity of cultures.
Throughout his career Hunter has not only chronicled the beauty of Ritual but also has unflinchingly recorded the plain shocking; and the result is a vast and extraordinary anthropological study. He allows us to glimpse the diverse, often colourful and sometimes obscure ceremonies that have remained unchanged for centuries – and in some instances thousands of years. Many of these ceremonies and rituals have been rarely witnessed by Westerners. Some of these immortalise traditions, people, even geographical areas which may not survive much longer due to geo-political change – and the global rise of Social Media.
