In the beautiful scenery of the Aeolian Islands will take place the documentary film festival now in its fifth edition. The creator and director of the event, Giovanna Taviani, this year decided to examine an important issue for the story of Italy, the Mediterranean, which will be told in Salina through two world premieres and seven national premieres in competition among the selected .
This is an opportunity to reflect on the cultures of countries bordering the Mediterranean. The theme of this year’s festival infact is “Borders and Horizons”: a shared horizon of common values that joins together the people of the Mediterranean from north to south, people who share cultural tastes and ideals, against the crisis we call “globalization”, currently assailing the occidental world.
The festival, which was included in the official scheduling of Major Events in the Region of Sicily, is a candidate to become an important site of the documentary genre from north to south of the Mediterranean, touching the sides of the Atlantic: all coasts linked each others from a common fate of immigration and emigration.
In this analysis of the Mediterranean culture, the great protagonist of the story will be 'the Arab revolution”, told by short films, films and work in progress, almost all unpublished, and coming from North Africa and Middle East. The program includes a section dedicated to the best Italian documentaries of the season. The five films presented will compete for the distribution award arranged for by [CINEMA.DOC], alongside the other Italian works in the international competition. Category guest Giovanni Piperno, one of the best Italian documentarists of the moment, will address a master class to the schools and youth of Salina on “The Viewpoint of the Documentary”.
Among the guests of this fifth edition the Sicilian singer Franco Battiato, who will intervene with a tribute to the Arab world on September 22nd , and Vinicio Capossela in concert on Sept. 23rd with an extract of the concert: Sailors, Prophets and Whales, a show that follows the route of its latest album, in the high seas of the mythology and literature.
