In the wake of An Unfolding Portrait, the important and significant Louise Bourgeois retrospective at the MoMA, Lelong Editions presents a selection of emblematic prints, a number of which appeared in the New York exhibition.
The dozen prints displayed here contain all the artist's favourite themes: the couple, the home, the bed, the body, the arch of hysteria... These are fragments of a tale with a strong autobiographical element, often fantasized, which occur within the intimate domestic circle, where passion and nostalgia, anxiety and mystery combine.
Born in France in 1911, Louise Bourgeois passed away in 2010. She is one of the leading artists of the second half of the 20th Century and early 21st Century. A late discovery as an artist her work, which falls into no defined artistic classification, has been the subject of major exhibitions and retrospectives throughout the world over the last 25 years.
In 2000, Galerie Lelong & Co. produced a volume of writings by and interviews with Louise Bourgeois under the title: Destruction du père / Reconstruction du père.
