Cadogan Contemporary is delighted to present a new Spring Exhibition, featuring the work of Josef Fischnaller, Tiffany Calvert, Elise Ansel, Cristiano di Martino, Juliette Paull and Rebecca Meanley.

The exhibition will cover the theme of Spring viewed through the work of 5 very different artists, each using a specific medium. Whether through painting, sculpture, photography or a combination of both, each artist endeavours to create a dialogue about art history and our visual heritage.

We are very excited to take on two new artists for this exhibition, the renowned Austrian photographer Josef Fischnaller and the American painter Tiffany Calvert.

Fischnaller composes vibrant, large-scale photographs that evoke classical still-life compositions but also contain anachronistic witty details. After extremely successful solo exhibitions in Germany, Italy, Austria and the United States, we are delighted to be showing his work for the first time in London.

Tiffany Calvert’s work also brings a modern approach to classical painting, she paints on top of large-scale digital prints, using a combination of oil paint and digital editing to create stunning compositions that are fragmented and obscured, echoing not only the 17th Dutch still-life painters but also Cezanne and the Impressionists.

We have represented Elise Ansel, Cristiano di Martino and Rebecca Meanley for a number of years. Ansel is one of our most established artists at the gallery. She has continued her practice of interpreting Old Master paintings through the prism of contemporary practice to increasing critical success. Di Martino is a very exciting young Italian painter and sculptor whose delicate sculptures perfectly evoke the ideas of growth and decay that come with the arrival and departure of Spring. Meanley is a gestural abstract painter, for her, creating and maintaining the illusion of depth is vital. Marks and gestures are applied to the surface making the illusion of depth operative. Her paintings evoke the emergent nature of Spring, the bright colours almost growing and flowering out of the canvas. This exhibition promises vivid bursts of colour and a fresh outlook on the reinterpretation of classical themes by 5 leading International Contemporary Artists.
