Newzones is pleased to present "Spectrum", a solo exhibition by Marie Lannoo.

Through the series “Spectrum”, Marie Lannoo uses the language of color to accumulate, connect, combine, transform, and interact. By breaking down each hue into incremental parts of increasing intensity and then layering each part over others, di erent iterations of one color interact with other colors in a slow, steady chromatic progression. One color transforms into another through connection, accumulation, and interaction. Much like us!

Moving between abstraction and representation, Lannoo’s paintings exert a potent physiological e ect on those who stand in front of them. Made up of many uid layers, these simmering surfaces subtly shift in colour and texture as you move around them. Lannoo’s works are, in essence, richly coloured mirrors composed of paint that aptly question the manner in which the human presence can be added into a painting. Lannoo’s multilayered works play with both the perception of painting as much as they challenge conventional notions of representation.

Lannoo was born in Delhi, Ontario. She attended the University of Saskatchewan and studied painting at the Ban School of Arts as well as in Virton, Belgium. Her work has been shown in exhibitions throughout Canada and internationally. Lannoo’s artwork has been collected by the Bank of Montreal (Toronto, Phoenix, New York), Beaverbrook Art Gallery (Fredericton), Canada Council Art Bank (Ottawa) The Government of Alberta (Edmonton), Glenbow Museum (Calgary), University of Saskatchewan (Saskatoon), Government of Canada (Ottawa), Department of Foreign A airs (Ottawa), Canadian Embassy (Hong Kong), Four Seasons Hotel (Dubai), Mendel Art Gallery (Saskatoon), and privately throughout North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
