Page 2of 3Mike Steiner’s Video Collection featuring Marina Abramovic and Ulay Mike Steiner began his career immersed in the Minimalist movement, the Living Theatre and the Happenings occurring throughout Europe in the 1960s whilst experimenting with slide projections, music, film and video recordings. In 1970, he opened the “Hotel Steiner”, a legendary artistic hotel near Kurfürstendamm in Berlin, followed by the Studio-Galerie in 1976, which became an important meeting point for international avant-garde video and performance artists, as well as for the Fluxus artistic movement. He made video works of the many artists and performances that happened in those spaces, from Allan Kaprow and Joseph Beuys to Ben Vautier, Valie Export and Laurie Anderson. Most recently shown at Museum Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin, Steiner’s rarely seen video works of Marina Abramovic and Ulay's iconic performances in the 1970s will be the focus of this exhibition at Photo Macau.
