Bronwen Paterson grew up in South Africa. Africa is a place close to her heart and she attempts to encapsulate images and memories from her past in her work. These images and memories have a deep resonance in her.
Bronwen Paterson has a fine arts and graphic design background. The artist combines a number of disciplines (fine art, graphic design and surface design) and so a multi-layered process is apparent in her prints. The construction of her work combines screen-printing, hand-colouring and mono-printing. This construction technique gives her prints a lush and almost tactile appearance.
Her latest works are a series of studies made from found objects. These range from a seashell, a wasp nest, bone and fragments of Old English pottery. She prints and paints small, intricately detailed pieces on a grand scale thus emphasizing their overlooked beauty.
