Diana Lowenstein Gallery, presents a solo show of unpublished works by José Bechara, established Brazilian artist. Under the title “The thickness of the void”, the gallery brings together 18 new paintings produced in 2017, and also recent works with glass developed especially for the show.

The exhibition is formed by two different series: one were the artist uses techniques involving acrylics and metal oxidations such as steel and copper on used and old tarpaulins; the another series based on the possibilities of painting with glass that tries to question themes like the “space in between”, “gravity”, “transparencies” and sometimes “reflection of images around”, “fragility”, as planned by the artist.

In this new exhibition Jose Bechara, offers an enlarged palette revealed with color and luminous contrasts, as well as works structured from a more closed frame. A constructive grid marked by the presence of small territories of high points of color that combined with the vertical and horizontal lines constitute a recognized degree of the pictorial route of José Bechara and his particular approach to the geometrical experience “I prefer to watch the geometry not as an affirmative territory but as something fragile, that needs to make big efforts to emerge, like all of us”.

In addition to the exhibition in the gallery the artist holds an exhibition at MAM Rio de Janeiro called “Brute flux” and had participated this year of the 7th Beijing International Biennial and the 1st International Biennial of South America, Buenos Aires.
