In autumn 2017, Turner Contemporary presents My Ghosts by John Davies, whose haunting, figurative sculptures touch on memory, time and the fragility of the body.
This exhibition in the Sunley Gallery and balcony brings together a new, large-scale tableau alongside a series of scarecrow-like sculptures and recent drawings.
Throughout his career, Davies has focused on the human head and figure, using a variety of different media. Of his early figures, often cast from life and clothed, Davies has said, ‘I wanted to make a figure, not like a piece of sculpture, more like a person…. I wanted my sculpture to be more like life in the street’.
John Davies (b. 1946) is represented in major collections including Tate, the National Gallery of Modern Art Edinburgh and the British Council Collection.
