Cahiers d’Art is pleased to present Blackboards and Brick Works, an exhibition of work by Per Kirkeby including seven blackboard paintings and two historical brick sculptures from the 70’s.
On this occasion, Kirkeby has produced for Cahiers d’Art a new series of aquatint and drypoint prints.
This exhibition has been made possible thanks to the collaboration of Jill Silverman van Coenegrachts.
Born in 1938 in Copenhagen (where he currently lives and works) Per Kirkeby is a major figure of Scandinavian contemporary art scene. The Danish artist has developed a unique body of work, rooted in art history, and inspired by his training as a geologist. Although he describes himself a painter, Kirkeby is also a sculptor, architect, film director, and the author of over fifty books.
In conjunction with the Per Kirkeby Brick Sculpture (1966-2016) exhibition at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris (October 20th - December 22nd), Cahiers d’Art will publish a book focusing on Kirkeby's brick sculptures. This brand new publication by Cahiers d'Art will be available at the end of November in both English and French editions, with texts by Didier Semin (Professor of Art History at Beaux- Arts), Penelope Curtis (Director Calouste Gulbenkian Museum), Jill Silverman van Coenegrachts, and Thierry Leviez (Curators).
