Alessandra Bonomo Gallery is pleased to present a solo show dedicated to acclaimed American artist Joan Jonas.
The exhibition presents, Joan Jonas’ latest images and drawings depicting fishes and other animals with Japanese blue ink, mirror images of different colors and other drawings made with the use of ice.
During the exhibition, the artist will transform the gallery space with her walldrawings, drawings installation, light metal structures and videos.
Joan Jonas is regarded as one of the most important American artists of the late 20th century. She was born in New York, where she studied at Columbia University and began her creative career as a sculptor. During the 70s, she hit the international scene as a major figure of video and performance art.
From the 80s onwards she introduces in her work references to mythology and archetypes from medieval sagas, in particular Icelandic poets, integrating her interest in myths and fairy tales with the anthropological studies of the historian and theorist Aby Warburg.+
