The Walter Wickiser Gallery is proud to present an exhibition of recent paintings by Peter Burega, from October 28th to November 22nd, 2017.
Burega’s paintings are created with a simple gesture – spreading paint on panel. Burega’s paintings are vibrant and energetic. Photographs taken by the artist are his initial inspiration and blur into his subconscious. Music directs his work and brings energy to canvas. Burega also states that “A final governance [to his work] is the visceral and cerebral balance I draw upon from my experience, travel, and environment coupled with time spent in the studio. There are a development that never has specific direction but gleens from memories, dreams, and emotions while permeating paint and panel.”
In 2016, The Western Art & Architecture Magazine reviewed that “[Burega] uses aspects of sky and clouds, water and earth, that when combined is like catching fireflies in a mason jar – frantic, beautiful, fantastical and serene . . . since travel enters Burega’s work . the photographs he takes become the basis for his compositions, although the end result may be a combination of places, cities and clouds.”
Peter Burega was born in Montreal Quebec in 1965 and currently resides in Santa Fe, NM. He received his BA from McGrill University in 1987 and later got his JD Degree form Whittier College, Los Angeles, CA in 1991. Burega has had numerals solo shows across the country and his works are collected by various entities, including major bank and hotel art collections.
