Since time immemorial, many phenomena in our environment have seemed mysterious and frightening to us. Unable to be explained by the knowledge of earlier times they became fertile ground for human fantasy.
Thus elephant skull fossils became cyclops, and the remarkable teeth of narwhals grew instead on the foreheads of unicorns. A monster could take up residence in Loch Ness while tatzelwurms and lindwurms menaced our surroundings.
The exhibit sheds light on the fascinating border area between knowledge and ignorance and offers a rare journey into the realm of human imagination. On the way, we encounter sorcerers and witches, sea snakes and cocos de mer, and even the Yeti.
